Today Ralph and Jim again talk with I/O psychologist Cassie Stockner about workplace issues. They look at the work of Hackman and Oldham's (1974) whose job characteristics model suggested that five core job dimensions affect certain personal and work related outcomes, including job satisfaction. The five core job dimensions identified are autonomy, feedback, skill variety, task identity, and task significance.
We look at the Volvo model of job design; 85% of employees would recommend working at Volvo Group to a friend and 77% have a positive outlook for the business. This rating has been stable over the past 12 months. That did not sound like Johnny Paycheck to us.
Seligman’s work with the three types of happiness was reviewed.
We are sorry for the couple of technical glitches in the last podcast. Jim and Ralph got their broadcasting start on live radio in Canada and they have no editing skills!!!
