Partakers Friday Prayers
We pray together and when Christians pray together, from different nations, different churches and different denominations - that reveals Church unity! Come! Let us pray together!
15th May 2020 - Prayers with Deb Vears I was standing outside in my garden the other evening as the light was fading. It was the kind of light where some of the garden solar lights have come on but not all, the birds were tweeting their good night songs and it was getting a little chilly.
It was that time between day and night that doesn’t last for long and it reminded me that our earthly lives are relatively short in the grand scheme of creation.
I don’t say this to be downcast but rather because it reminds us how blessed we are to wake up in the morning and because it encourages us to make the most of each and every day. St. John Henry Newman once said “fear not that thy life shall come to an end but rather fear that it shall never have a beginning.” In other words, don’t just exist, live life to the full.
I know that’s not always easy, especially in these difficult times, but I recently read some words which, I think, can help us to do this.
Think deeply, speak gently, love much, laugh often, work hard, give freely and be kind. If we use those words as a rule for our lives we can really make the most of our time during our earthly lives.
And so today I’ll end with one of my favourite prayers which is attributed to John Henry Newman
Support us, O Lord, all the day long of this troublous life,
until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes,
the busy world is hushed,
the fever of life is over,
and our work is done.
Then, Lord, in your mercy,
grant us a safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at the last;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen
