Taoiseach Micheál Martin will unveil a statue of the late SDLP leader and former MEP John Hume in the European Parliament in Strasbourg later today.
The Parliament’s President Roberta Metsola will also be at the unveiling of the bronze bust which was made by Dublin-based sculptor Liz O’Kane who is originally from Northern Ireland.
Fine Gael MEP Colm Markey says the Parliament’s decision to honour Mr Hume’s legacy by displaying the sculpture on its premises, is “very very important”.
