Jim and James are joined across the pond by writer Thomas Campbell and director Gav Chuckie Steel of Deadbolt Films. Part-time filmmakers and full-time Lovecraft fans, Tom and Gav chat about how they got introduced to each other, which artists have inspired them, and how most contemporary cinematic Lovecraft adaptations are a letdown because of how they trade cosmic horror for tentacles and gore.
Most relevant to the late Howard Philips, the writer/director team have produced Beyond, a short film based on the even shorter "From Beyond." Blending the original story's spirit with Lovecraft's dream cycle and Robert W. Chambers' "The King in Yellow," Beyond captures in 10 minutes what entire features get wrong about Lovecraft. Come for the delightful British accents, but stay for the boys dreaming about Ken Foree in orange briefs.
