“Recording the History of Trinidad and Tobago”- not exactly what you’d think of as the role of a sound technician, but if sound is a road map through Trinbago time and space, it means that being able to journey through it so fluently, makes one a historian. In this episode of Saturday Brunch we get a look behind the scenes of sound engineering mastery with veteran Robin Foster. Joking about how much of a Sound Jumbie he becomes when he drops into his work, the giant from among other giants discusses how external musical trends such as opera, jazz and soul have influenced tonalities in calypso music, and he expertly interprets the new developments of soca music, in a shrunken world of instant access to global music material.
