Pure Science: Birds of the parrot family use their beak as third limb

Biologists have discovered that birds of the parrot family, such as parakeets, macaws, cockatoos, budgies, and lovebirds, use their beaks as a third limb when climbing. The findings show that the birds have co-opted their entire feeding apparatus to give it physiological strength to facilitate tripedalism, in a completely novel and unique finding.
