Congress Must Not Let Iran Sanctions Expire

Give the devil his due.  For a lame duck president, Barack Obama is making huge progress on his declared purpose of fundamentally transforming America.

Fresh from his success in using the automatic termination of a statute to eliminate an NSA intelligence program he didn’t like, Mr. Obama seems intent on doing the same to sanctions on Iran that he’s determined to eliminate.  

Forget about the ostensible deadline for completing a nuclear deal with the mullahs by the end of the month. By stringing out the talks, Tehran can continue its covert bomb-building and Obama runs out the clock on the key Iranian sanctions legislation, which expires at year’s end.

Congress must stop enabling the president’s wrecking operation and act now to preserve – or, better yet, intensify – sanctions on Iran.
