Technology has the ability to make us better athletes and coaches, but only if we apply it properly and use it in the right context. It's a tool just like anything else, and its role in endurance sports is becoming more and more central.
The signs that technology may not be being used as a value add to our athletic identity.
- Using technology purely for external validation.
- Executing training sessions only in the hopes that some data-driven metrics have changed.
- Losing sight of how to properly contextualize data-driven metrics in relation to individual goals and training periodization.
- Not placing the proper importance on qualitative metrics like sleep, stress, and motivation.
- No longer being able to execute a training session based on RPE or "feel".
