Frankly, the past hundred years of human history are full of absolutely unnecessary death, misery and failures. However, while there are a lot of things about human history that inspire a profound sadness in me, there are also many things to be celebrated. At least, celebrated insofar as they can be in consideration of all the horror and ignored and/or squandered potential. If you can acknowledge those things and yet find reasons to smile and laugh each day, well, you either just don’t give a shit or you’re like me in that you do, but you realize that most human beings have sold (and continue to sell) themselves out for convenience and supposed safety. There isn’t much hope for this species (or any other, thanks to us), sad little creatures we are, but we can laugh and keep warm by the trash fires we call homes for a while.
Truly, what hope I have is limited to myself and those I love. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, and anyone who would have me speak for them shouldn’t. Agree if you like, but form your own ideas as well. Goddamn, anyway, enough of this nonsense. The bottom line of all that is that I tried to give a shit about Memorial Day this year, and I just couldn’t. So, instead, I’ve chosen to publish this edition that has some mindful, provocative lyrics, and some mindlessly celebratory lyrics. In the end, it’s always up to you to choose ignorance or awareness.
