HORROR WITH SIR. STURDY EP 551~ `PERFECT BLUE (1997) & THE INTENSITY OF ANIMATED HORROR
What’s good, Horror Fam!?
Tonight on Horror With Sir. Sturdy, we’re diving deep into the animated psychological horror cult classic—Perfect Blue (1997).
This film is pure intensity—disturbing visuals, identity breakdowns, blurred reality, and the kind of suspense that crawls under your skin.
This ain't your typical anime. It’s twisted, brilliant, and leaves your mind spinning.

We’re going LIVE to break down the film’s psychological edge, legendary direction by Satoshi Kon, and why this movie still hits just as hard today.
Perfect Blue is a psychological animated horror thriller directed by Satoshi Kon in his directorial debut. The story follows Mima Kirigoe, a former J-pop idol who leaves her music group to pursue an acting career. But as she tries to shed her clean image and take on darker roles, Mima’s grip on reality starts to slip.
She’s stalked by a dangerous fan, haunted by visions of her “idol self,” and manipulated by the entertainment industry—leading to a spiral of paranoia, identity confusion, and mental breakdown.
With themes of celebrity obsession, media exploitation, and psychological trauma, this film messes with your mind in the best (and worst) ways possible. Think of it as a Black Swan-level descent into madness… but animated, and way ahead of its time.
