She’s stalked by a dangerous fan, haunted by visions of her “idol self,” and manipulated by the entertainment industry—leading to a spiral of paranoia, identity confusion, and mental breakdown.

 

With themes of celebrity obsession, media exploitation, and psychological trauma, this film messes with your mind in the best (and worst) ways possible. Think of it as a Black Swan-level descent into madness… but animated, and way ahead of its time.

Perfect Blue is a Japanese animated psychological horror film, directed by Satoshi Kon and produced by Madhouse. It was released in Japan on February 28, 1997, and came to the U.S. in limited release on August 20, 1999.
