More than ever college administrators are using large media deals to make their Athletic Depts self reliant , but also 2-4 hr long commercials for their to recruit. Not to recruit Athletes, but regular student body and the brightest minds. Winning championships has been shown to lead to more student applications building your alumni base which can lead to more donations and more endowments money. School are not only to win on the field, but in the research world. To be ranked, just like their athletic teams. They are not only fighting to get in the B1G money deal media  conference, also, the AAU. No, I'm not talking about basketball. I'm talking the Assoc. of American Universities. These are the top research schools in the nation. This also drives endowments and their incentives in the President of Universities contracts to obtain bonuses. By the way the endowments funds are control by Hedge fund managers. The whole of colleges has gone corporate.
