San Juan Regional Medical Center invites the community to celebrate the newest members inducted into the hospital's hall of fame. The 2016 Legacy of Leadership ceremony will be held in the San Juan College Little Theater on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Hall of Fame Committee Member Gwen Clouthier and SJRMC Public Relations Coordinator Laura Werbner discuss this year's inductees:
Thelma Armstrong was a long-time volunteer with San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Auxiliary. Her 30 years of volunteering included serving as Auxiliary President in 1972-1973, coordinating community blood drives in the late 70s, and receiving state recognition for serving more than 19,000 hours. She was also honored as a Lifetime Member of the Auxiliary. Her love to be of service to the public touched countless lives.
Dick Gerding worked as San Juan Regional Medical Center’s hospital attorney for nearly 40 years. During that time he worked with administration on various legal issues and also worked closely with staff members to create bylaws. He was instrumental in the coordination of several big construction projects that added additions to the hospital, and later worked on compliance issues with federal statutory changes. He has been recognized numerous times for his exemplary service as a lawyer and is still practicing with his firm, Gerding & O’Loughlin.
Dr. Michael Henderson was a member of the hospital’s Diagnostic Radiology Department, serving as Chief of Staff in 1984 and 1995. He was involved in the development of the Cancer Center and the growth of the X-ray department, helping to acquire the latest cutting edge technology for the hospital. He has traveled all over the world and participated in many sporting adventures and now calls Scottsdale, Arizona home.
Jim Rogers is a long-time Four Corners resident with a history of service to the community. As a pharmacist and owner of Mesa Drug, he embraced new medical technology and helped increase services to his customers. He brought that same mindset to San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Board of Directors, where he served for 10 years. During his time as Board Chair, he increased hospital services and helped facilitate new construction.
Dr. John Romine was an active member of the hospital’s medical staff for more than 30 years, serving as Chairman of the Department of Surgery in 1989 as well as Chairman of the Administrative Affairs Committee in 1990-1991. As an orthopedic surgeon, he was a founding member of Orthopedics Associates. Dr. Romine also served many medical missions around the world with the military, retiring with 22 years of service to our country.
