GOP Suicide Watch on Amnesty

It’s time for a suicide watch for the Republican Party. The House leadership is pushing an impending amendment that could doom the GOP to permanent minority status in Congress and the country.

Democrats reckon they’ll benefit politically by amending the annual defense authorization bill to allow some illegal aliens to serve in the U.S. military, and gain citizenship. They expect to secure the votes of such individuals and the others who ultimately will benefit from this amnesty gambit.

Unclear is why any Republican lawmakers and operatives are willing to bet the party’s future – and perhaps the country’s security – to try to prove the Democrats wrong.

Sixteen retired military leaders yesterday urged the Armed Services Committee to reject this suicidal amendment and what will flow from it. Will Republicans agree?
