Dangerous War Weariness

This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.

On this day 100 years ago, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, setting in train a series of events that resulted in what was dubbed “the war to end all wars.”

Unfortunately, horrible as World War I proved to be, it was only the opening act of an even worse, second global conflict twenty-five years later.

The post-war-weariness of Western democracies caused them to ignore and appease Adolf Hitler, rather than defeat him decisively when he was weak. One wonders if we are not witnessing today’s totalitarians emboldened by the Free World’s renewed passivity in the face of danger.

Will contemporary events rocket out of control like they did a century ago? U.S. leadership backed by strength is the best protection against such an eventuality. We must restore both, now.
