On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, host Trey Cashion discussed the significance and historical background to the day's feast: St. Joseph the Worker. Pope Pius XII established the feast of St. Joseph the Worker in 1955 in hopes of highlighting the Christian dignity of labor, to give all working people a patron, and to counter the influence of atheistic communism's International Workingman's Day. Trey explained why work is good and how it makes it possible for men and women to acheive excellence through the use of their talents. At the same time, St. Joseph the Worker reminds us that all human beings have a right to work, should be protected from demeaning, desultory labor, and should be able to secure a livelihood sufficient to care for themselves and their families. Our memory verse this week was Genesis 2:15, "The LORD God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it."
