Mystic Mondays | Laughter came from every brick
Every Monday we will venture into the thoughts and voices of those in the Christian mystical tradition in five minutes or less! In the third Mystic Monday episode we hear from the Carmelite nun, reformer, and contemplative mystic Teresa of Avila. The selection for this episode comes from a very short poem she wrote that titled “Laughter came from every brick.”“The poems of St. Teresa always speak of God. They speak of Him as something as natural as the air one breathes. She does not tender fanciful arguments to prove that God exists. Her poems express to us the reality of God himself because she herself has found Him.”-Daniel LadinskySubscribe to the Signposts email list! Wrestling with the Text (Fixed)
This past weekend I was privileged to be able to preach at the church where I am on staff. I thought it would be fun to share that sermon here on the podcast as a type of bonus/semi-unplanned episode. The texts I preached on were Genesis 32:22-31, 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5, and Luke 18:1-8. In this sermon, I talk about how parables as a mode of communication that demand action and how we can not simply just ignore the problematic and difficult passages that we encounter in the pages of the scriptures. Ps. The audio quality is not great because I had to record it on the iPad I was preaching from. Subscribe to the Signposts weekly email!
