The miles we put on. Patience is required. Sorry for the techical difficulty, we have in this episode. Please, pardon the glitchy robotic voice at the start, we get up to speed by the first minute of the recording. Today's episode has us featuring 2 time municipal councillor turned Member of Parliament candidate, Laura Dupont of the Port Coquitlam/ Coquitlam riding. We discuss the transition with fundraising targets, imported Ontario campaign managers and being part of Jagmeet Singh's New Democratic Party. I learn about the Tri-cities which include Port Moody, incumbent Bonita Zarillio and a convergence of three rivers, including the Pitt and the mighty Fraser. To map out north america by the migratory paths of wild salmon and connecting to the flow of water or the streams on which we recreate. I might not know much about the lower mainland but I always enjoy discussions about diversity opportunities in councils, the provincial Legislature and the House of Commons. We discuss what motivates us in our political lives, food security (my all time favorite topic) and the extreme weather events that are happening more frequently. Add to that increases in insurances claims and costs, crippling the next generation's economies. Laura talks about the grant process as a piece meal approach that leads to further inequities. We discuss a new form of accounting practices, which instead of seeing nature as a liability, can adopt a bigger picture approach appreaciating assets we are inventing new metrics to value. With the constant triage of anxiety, fear, stress and heartache, given the global situation in places like Afghanistan, it is a heavy load to carry. Big strides are needed for more fair distribution in wealthy countries like ours. We talked about what got us started on our political journey and how stepping stones present themselves. She told me about a YouTube video she likes from Halifax about tree canopies and about the effects of erosion she notices in her local neighbourhoods. The green Antler's #waterfowl podcast would like to wish Laura Dupont the best of luck on her campaign to be elected as MP.
