Episode 21: Tyson Trunkhill Sticks & Stones Archery and The Dust-Off Project
You meet certain people in this life that change it forever. For me, Tyson Trunkhill is one of those people. Rewind to Thanksgiving 2019 and a post I saw on Facebook of Tyson presenting a refurbished compound bow to a Veteran at his archery shop in Denver Iowa. The smile on that man's face instantly made me want to be a part of what this Army Veteran was doing and a new friendship was formed. While I was familiar with the Armed Forces using archery as a means of rehab for those wounded in combat, my new partnership with Tyson and his program would open my eyes even further.
Fast forward to the fall of 2021 and The Dust-Off Project has now delivered close to 70 complete bow setups to deserving men and women who have served our country. It's a story that warms my heart and fits perfectly into the larger mission here at HHAUSA. Long suffering from PTSD himself, Trunkhill is now introducing a sport he loves dearly and one that has provided solace to him time and time again to his fellow soldiers.
As patriots and archers, we owe it to all who have served to help in any way that we can. There is a huge opportunity for us to change the conversation surrounding post traumatic stress and the 22 a day that take their lives. If anyone has gently used archery equipment, bows, arrows, sights, arrows, cases, camouflage clothes, you name it, please...consider passing them along to this great organization. The difference that it makes in someone's life is hard to put into words and in some cases, can even be life saving.
