114: Literacy-Based Therapy Part 1: Before Reading Activities
It allows me to plan easily, quickly, and effectively. I can use one resource with as many groups as possible or even with mixed groups with many different goals. It also allows me to correlate what we do in speech therapy with what they are doing in their classrooms. This means I can mimic their classroom lessons and teach them how to use the strategies that we worked on in the speech room to improve their outcomes.
In this episode of SLP Coffee Talk, I am talking all about before-reading activities. Why before reading? In order to incorporate reading lessons they may be doing in the classroom, we need to focus on before, during, and after reading activities.
This means you are doing a whole lesson before even starting a book or article! Doing this gives your students a better chance to grasp the text and understand the lessons.
Make sure to tune in to this episode to learn a ton of different before reading ideas, strategies, activities, and tools you can use in your speech therapy sessions.
This episode is the first part in a three-part series where I will be sharing activities you can do for each part of the process, so make sure to tune in next week to learn more about during reading activities!
