Some people wear their stress as a badge of honor, especially if they're wrapping up their self worth in how much they do during the day.
But the stress felt by parents of neurodiverse kids is very real and I want to discuss it.
So many of them wind up in my inbox asking, “Sara, what's wrong with me?”
“Why am I so drained?”
“Why am I losing my patience with my kids?”
“Why am I becoming the mom? Who's yelling at the end of the day? I don't want to be that parent!”
I want to start this episode by saying that you have control over this. You don't have to be THAT person, but there is work involved in governing your own well-being that has to happen, and it’s just as important as the work you put into your kids.
I'm providing resources in this episode that will help you tremendously.
But before we talk about why parents of neurodiverse and medically complex kids are stressed, let's talk about what stress does to you, because it’s far more damaging than you think.
