John Mulligan’s message on Sunday was the 2nd part to “Amazing Grace and Answer: Understanding and Responding to Being Saved.” Being saved is the Responsibility Of A Lifetime! This responsibility calls upon us to consider what God looks for in our spiritual growth and to commit to those changes.
We read in 2 Corinthians 5:16-17: “From now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” We are a new creation in Christ! This means we no longer live for ourselves. We forgo our old preoccupations and temptations.
God raised us up to an undeserved status, to a place of honor, in spite of our sins. What’s our responsibility for being so blessed? Eph. 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works…”
“Doing good works” may seem like a broad phrase, so interpret that as whatever it means to you to be positive, and not to live for yourself. Scripture gives us myriad examples of living a Christ-like life, not the least of which is to love our enemies, have compassion for others, and be merciful -- even to those who don’t seem to deserve it.
We must always be growing, working on building our character, and creating ourselves anew as we walk with God. Stay the course - it will take a lifetime. Make it a good lifetime.
