The Role of Polygraph in the Security Industry with Basil Anthony Bewry, CPP, PCI, PSP (ASIS Indonesia Chapter Session)
Basil Anthony Bewry is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, United Kingdom. He served in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) for eleven (11) years. He was awarded the Medal of Honour, General Service, for his work with US Army Intelligence during the Caribbean Peacekeeping Operations in Grenada in 1983-84. Following his retirement from the JDF in 1988, he joined Atlas Protection (Ocho Rios) Limited as its Regional Manager and served as Managing Director from 1991 to 2014. In 1999 Capt. Bewry received a Diploma in Forensic Psychophysiology from the world-renowned Backster School of Lie Detection in San Diego, California and completed the John E. Reid & Associates' Course in Advanced Interviewing and Interrogation Techniques in 2001. He established Forensic Polygraph Services in 2002 and has to date, administered over 9,000 polygraph tests.
Capt. Bewry has been a member of ASIS International since 2005 and is the holder of the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) designations. He is currently the Treasurer and Program Chairperson of the Jamaica Chapter by previously held the Chapter Chairman position for 12 years (2005 - 2008 and 2012 – 2019). He is also a Member of that Investigation Council, an Associate Member of the American Polygraph Association, a Founding Member of the Jamaica Polygraph Association, the Chairman of the Ex-JDF Officers' Reunion Committee, the Member of the Board of Management of the Wolmer's Trust Schools and the Chairman of the Wolmer's Preparatory School.
ASIS International, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is a professional organization for security professionals. It issues certifications, standards, and guidelines for the security profession. Founded in 1955 as the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), the organization officially changed its name in 2002 to ASIS International to reflect its international expansion, which included 37,000 members and 200 local chapters worldwide at that time (Penuel et al., 2013, p. 13).
