In case you didn’t know, there is a documentary film about my family, specifically my son, Rocco, who's now 12, that's hitting film festivals (and winning awards) all around the world.
Today’s podcast episode takes a closer look at the question I am asked the most frequently by journalists around the Rocco Up documentary.
My family is incredibly honored to be a voice for the autism community and advocate for families that haven't been seen or heard as they navigate their journey with autism. As the press interviews have increased, I've set the intention that each one will spread the message of hope and support so that the world as a whole can be more inclusive and encouraging for these families.
Inevitably, every journalist brings up the topic of how “hard” it must be to parent a child who can't fluently talk to me or who experiences the world so differently.
My response might surprise you, and it’s certainly not how I would have responded 10 years ago.
