Rosanne Haggerty | President & CEO of Community Solutions (Rebroadcast)
Rosanne Haggerty, President and CEO of Community Solutions, breaks down the research her nonprofit organization has gathered and discusses how it changes the approach to solving homelessness.
The new mindset Rosanne provides is to see homelessness not as the problem but as a symptom of systemic failures in other parts of the industry. She provides examples from her work with Community Solutions and their movement “Built for Zero”, a program in over 90 counties using research and communication to discern the root causes of homelessness in their communities and finding new solutions.
Rosanne talks about the issue of fragmentation that has prevented real changes in the homelessness experience. She talks about the need for the disciplined collaboration and altering the mindset from housing after rehabilitation to provide housing as a means of assisting in solving addiction or unemployment.
The real estate industry as a whole is brought into focus as Rosanne discusses the perspectives on societal issues that has ripple effects across the industry. And while explaining how the industry can address homelessness, she describes the responsibility each community must make in finding solutions and how her team is using the MacArthur Grant for $100M to support those communities in their network.
As Rosanne expresses her passion for finding specialized solutions in communities, she shows the impact systemic failures in and outside real estate have had on the issue and encourages listeners to start proactive and preventative actions at the development level.
