In this episode Tim chats with Birmingham Legion goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg. The interview takes place just days before the club kicks off their 2020 USL Championship campaign. The opener will be an ESPN2 nationally-televised match against Memphis 901 FC.
Spangenberg enters his second year with the team. He talks to Tim about the team and he learned of the shutdown just days before their opening match.
Trevor explains how the varying degrees of lockdown in Birmingham offered both challenges and opportunities to maintain fitness away from the team. He also describes how goalkeeper training is different than that of an outfield player. In fact, he elaborates on how the club's goalkeepers trained themselves and the community's youth players during these extraordinary times. Having spent time in MLS & a believer in constant development, Spangenberg is a great example of the PDL system.
Spangenberg also talks about fan support from the Magic City Brigade & the greater Birmingham community. He is excited about the 2020 roster and believes they are ready to challenge in Group G and beyond.
