On March 14th, 1912, Floyd Allen was accused of triggering a shootout at a courthouse where he was on trial for a separate crime. The shootout, which involved law enforcement and many members of the Allen clan killed the presiding judge, the prosecutor, the sheriff, and two others. There was confusion on who fired the first shots and who killed who, but in the end Floyd and his son were found guilty and sentenced to death and a few other family members received lengthy prison sentences. To this day people in the county say that Floyd was wrongly convicted.
