Doing work you love is important, but it’s not always easy to find the ideal work-life balance that is often talked about. In today’s episode, Jake Butt shares his story of working for his family’s business, and then eventually branching off to start his own custom software development and consulting business. He knows firsthand how challenging it can be to differentiate between life and work as a small business owner, and it really is an ongoing balancing act.
Creating and running his business as a solopreneur, Jake has structured his business in a way that fits his life. He’s already made key pivots that continue to support his business as it changes and grows, and he’s learned his fair share of lessons along the way. He’s passionate about people, and surrounding himself with others who have experienced similar struggles in business and life has been vital for him. Jake considers himself a problem-solver, and he loves working with small business owners who aren't afraid to make necessary changes when they need to.

“It's just a choice that you have to make. Am I willing to work like that, and potentially run myself into the ground for a few years to really make this a success? Or, do I have the mental attitude that things may be a little slower, but ramp up and approach the business in a way that I feel like is going to suit my life first? It really just depends on your type of business, and what you want out of that business.”
