S5E14: The Modern Opt-In Eugenics Movement in the USA: The modern opt-in eugenics movement in the USA is a complex issue with no easy answers
Eugenics is the practice of controlling the genetic makeup of a population by encouraging or discouraging reproduction based on certain traits. The term has a long and controversial history, dating back to the early 20th century. In the United States, eugenics was used to justify the forced sterilization of people with disabilities and other undesirable traits. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in eugenics, but this time it is being driven by individuals and groups who are choosing not to have children. These people are motivated by a variety of factors, including the environmental crisis, the cost of raising a family, and the desire to focus on their careers. Some people argue that this new form of eugenics is just as harmful as the old one. They point out that it is still based on the idea that some people are better than others, and that it could lead to discrimination against those who choose not to have children. Others argue that this new form of eugenics is not harmful at all. They say that it is simply a matter of personal choice, and that it is no different from any other decision that people make about their lives. The debate over the modern opt-in eugenics movement is likely to continue for some time. It is a complex issue with no easy answers. However, it is important to have a conversation about it so that we can make informed decisions about our future. Here are some of the reasons why people are choosing not to have children in the USA:
It is important to note that not everyone who chooses not to have children is motivated by eugenics. Some people simply do not want children, and that is perfectly okay. The decision of whether or not to have children is a personal one. There is no right or wrong answer. It is important to weigh the pros and cons carefully before making a decision.
FORCE / FORCING
In magic, "forcing" refers to the act of making a spectator choose a particular card, object, or number without them realizing that they were influenced or coerced to make that choice. For example, a magician might use a particular sleight of hand technique to make it appear as though a spectator freely chose a card, when in reality the magician had already predetermined the outcome.
NUDGE / NUDGING
Nudging involves presenting choices and information in a way that encourages people to make certain decisions, without overtly telling them what to do. This can involve things like simplifying complex information, framing choices in a certain way, or providing incentives or feedback to steer people towards certain behaviors.
Trans Teens Harvesting Eggs and Sperm
Some parents of trans adolescents do harvest eggs or sperm from their children before they transition and then freeze them in case their trans gender trans son or daughter ever decides to have kids. This is a relatively new practice, but it is becoming more common as more and more trans people are coming out and transitioning at younger ages because puberty blockers can have a negative impact on fertility.
PS: I apologize for attributing Mozart as the composer of the 'Eroica' instead of by Beethoven.
