DC Shocker: James Gunn, Peter Safran to Lead Film, TV and Animation Division (Exclusive)

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that writer/director Gunn and producer Safran will become co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios. The new studio will replace DC Films at Warner Bros. Discovery, which is being shuttered following Walter Hamada's exit. WBD has spent months looking for an architect to oversee its comic book properties on the big and small screens in the hopes of replicating the success of Marvel Studios president Feige.

 

Gunn will oversee the creative side of DC Studios, with Safran focusing on the business and production end. On top of their new duties, both creatives will continue working in their respective fields. Gunn and Safran will report directly to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and work closely with Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.

Vision Series Starring Paul Bettany In Works At Marvel Studios For Disney+

Following an initial report by industry insider Jeff Sneider, Deadline has confirmed that a new WandaVision spinoff focusing on Vision is indeed being developed, with a writers' room expected to open next week. According to Deadline, Marvel Studios' Vision Quest "will be about The Vision (Bettany) trying to regain his memory and humanity." Additionally, there is a "possibility" that Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will make an appearance in the series as well, following her apparent (but unlikely) death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

DeMayo revealed his approach to recruiting for the X-Men: The Animated Series revival during an Instagram Story-based Q&A session. "My [line producer] was the first hire, and he brought along all the amazing talent that followed. My general rule was you had to be a fan. No questions," he said. "I've been on a show -- namely Witcher -- where some of the writers were not [fans] or actively disliked the books and games, even actively mocking the source material. It's a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos and makes all the long nights worth it. You have to respect the work before you're allowed to add to its legacy."
