When it came time to choose the first woman to sit in the Canadian Senate, Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King chose a relatively unknown woman named Cairine Wilson.
She would become a thorn in his side as she pushed for a more just Canada, where people are welcomed at the border to start a better life no matter their background, race, or religion.
