As humans, it's all too easy to dwell on the past. We dwell on our sins and mistakes, wondering what could have been had we not done those things. We dwell on the past memories of loved ones who are no longer with us, wondering what life would still be like with them. Now, there's nothing wrong with thinking about those things or missing loved ones. However, the question "what if" can be demoralizing if it consumes us. Without Jesus, that question only provides false hope because there is no hope for the future. However, because of Jesus, we have a future. We have a good future because he promises to bless the bad from the past. We have an eternal future because he is the resurrection and the life. So, rather than dwell on the past of our lives, we dwell on the past of Jesus' life. As we dwell on the cross and the empty tomb, it provides comforting hope for our future.
