Often when someone is depressed it leads to a downward spiral of depression. A person might want to start socializing less. Less positive feedback from others leads to even more depressive states. People might try to comfort themselves with junk food, this gives temporary pleasure, but it affects the person in a negative way long term. The same can be said about an upward spiral. One healthy choice leads to another one.
