Fatherhood.
What comes to mind for you when you see that word? For some of us, our fathers did their best. They weren’t perfect but they were present and tried to the best of their ability to fill the father role well. For others of us, fatherhood brings up a whole host of confusing and painful emotions. Either our fathers weren’t present or, if they were, their presence caused pain and trauma.
Joey Eells has always had a passion for fatherhood. When he became a foster and then an adoptive and biological parent, he sought to step into that role in a way that would point his children toward their Heavenly Father. Joey is a foster parent, adoptive parent, and children’s pastor at Eastview Christian Church in Normal, Illinois.
In this episode, Joey discusses the role of fatherhood, the complicated relationship that can exist between foster parents and biological parents, the challenges of navigating complex needs, how to model the love of God as a father, what their experience was like becoming foster parents, and more! Listen in as Joey vulnerably shares his perspective and experience.
