The White Australia policy was a series of discriminatory laws in Australia aimed at preventing immigration from non-European backgrounds, particularly Asians and Pacific Islanders, to maintain a predominantly white, British-oriented society. These policies came into being at our nations federation in 1901, but it would take another 72 years for them to be dismantled.
