Welcome to our 21-part deep-dive literary analysis of Sarah J. Maas’s bestselling romantasy novel, A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOWAR). In this episode, we cover chapters 4 through 7, as Feyre begins to unravel Ianthe’s influence and tighten her grip on the Spring Court, all while walking a razor’s edge between vengeance and exposure.
With 13 years of combined academic literary experience and two rotating literary lenses, best friends Jac and Amy examine how Sarah J. Maas uses divine symbolism, performative power, and calculated intimacy to raise the stakes in Feyre’s slow-burn sabotage. From solstice blessings to seductive distractions, we explore what it means to fight a war with elegance, subtext, and strategy.
If you're enjoying this series, be sure to check out our full literary analyses of A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) and A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF) to trace Feyre's transformation from mortal huntress to High Lady of the Night Court.
Chapter Description:
The morning of the Summer Solstice, Feyre attends Ianthe’s ceremony dressed like a queen and usurps the priestess’s plans to adorn herself with light. The small miracle of Feyre’s solstice blessing from the sun spins the Spring Court into a fervor, and clues from Feyre bring Tamlin to her bedroom, only to find her entangled with Lucien. When Feyre and Lucien again accompany the Hybern Commanders to the wall, Tamlin concedes with idle threats. Their venture to the wall brings Dagdan and Brannagh in contact with Children of the Blessed, and despite Feyre’s warnings to not touch the humans, the outing ends with their deaths.
