Early Life and Monastic Calling

Saint Sharbel Makhlouf, born Joseph Makhlouf on May 8, 1828, in Bekaa Kafra, Lebanon, was raised in a devout Maronite Christian family. Saint Sharbel Makhlouf was beatified by Pope Paul VI on December 5, 1965, during the closing of the Second Vatican Council. He was later canonized by the same pope on October 9, 1977.
