‘ON THE GROUND’ SHOW FOR AUGUST 30, 2024: Muslims Who Resigned from the Biden Administration Over Gaza Genocide Speak Out on Pervasive Islamophobia and Anti-Palestinian Racism Influencing U.S. Policy

For this hour, we hear from two Muslim women who resigned from the Biden administration in reaction to the administration's support for the genocide in Gaza. Maryam Hassanein, was a special assistant in land minerals and management at the Department of the Interior. Hala Rharrit is a former career diplomat with 18 years in the U.S. Foreign service. Her last assignment was as an Arabic language spokesperson for the State Department in the United Arab Emirates. In April 2024, Rharrit became the first American diplomat to publicly resign in protest of the Biden administration's Gaza policy, condemning it as failed, illegal and inhumane.
