90 Matthew’s Kingdom of Heaven- Geoff Henstock

Geoff Henstock lives in Adelaide and for many years has been a member of the Christadelphian church or ecclesia at Happy Valley Ecclesia.

Geoff for some time has been contemplating the significance of the way the expression “Kingdom of Heaven” as opposed to the “Kingdom of God” is used in the Gospel of Matthew. He has published a book and takes a detailed review of each occurrence of the expressions in the gospel as well as a wider biblical view of this key component of the gospel.

The Kingdom is at the very heart of the Bible. Along with the name of Jesus Christ it is one of the two key elements of the gospel message. But how would you define God’s Kingdom?

Matthew is unique in employing the phrase ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ – thirty-two times in his Gospel. No other New Testament writer uses this phrase. Why does Matthew use so distinctive a term? What is he trying to tell us? And does ‘Kingdom of heaven’ mean exactly the same as ‘Kingdom of God’?

In addressing these questions, this study examines every reference in Matthew to ‘the Kingdom’. By this methodical approach, which draws on the works of other writers who shed light on this vital topic, the author provides a detailed exposition of many of the themes and teachings in this Gospel of the Kingdom.
