2.9 Fight for Justice: Whatever Happens, Happens in Tracey v. City of Torrington
“Whatever happens, happens. But it was worth doing even if we lose the case. The City of Torrington will be more careful next time.” Burton Weinstein, lawyer for Tracey Thurman
In June of 1985, Tracey sued the City of Torrington, and its police officers, for $3.5 million dollars.
This was landmark case, as it was the first time a federal judge allowed someone to sue the police for not protecting her from an abusive husband.
