Regenerative Agriculture Podcast
Science:Earth Sciences
John Kempf and Ed Curry take the stage in Louisville, KY at the ACRES Conference 2018 — a hotbed for regenerative agriculture practitioners for the last 30 years — to record the podcast’s first ever podcast LIVE show.
The energy at the conference is palpable — that kind buzz that makes the room feel a bit brighter, gives that pep in your step, and smiles and hellos flow more freely, connecting strangers and friends alike.
This isn’t just another trade show or conference… this is a community of passionate and purposeful people working to share information, tools, and challenge the status quo of agriculture for the greater good — and that is why we chose ACRES 2018 for our first ever Podcast LIVE — and why John and Ed make such a great pair to co-create this inaugural episode here at this event.
Ed is an old-school breeder and grower with a new-school mentality.
More than 90% of the green chillies grown are from Ed’s seeds -- and he is now the only breeder of his kind in the world.
Even if you don’t grow chilies — you can certainly learn something from This discussion.
The sow covers important topics such as:
The art of visual phenotyping Soil health’s impact on genetics Increase in yield by maximizing genetic potential over time Visually measuring the yield and quality of a chille crop within 30 days of planting The relationship between early vigor and crop yield How Ed has seen nothing but decreases in phytophthora and xanthomonas bacterial spot Ed’s prediction for the coming capsaicin revolution and its many positive benefits.
At one point Ed gets so passionate about a specific topic, he jumps to his feet, standing up so fast and that his wireless mic pack falls off his belt and smashed on the stage —- literal mic drop — which you can hear the crash and audience laugh because his reaction was funnier than the breakage. Ed doesn’t skip a beat and keeps going unplugged as a tech gets a new mic on him and continues the show.
One of the most powerful things Ed said was “The soul of farming is the soil.”
We agree.
Soil is the soul of the farm, connecting many generations.
Ed loves what he does — and he certainly grows with soul.
He has dedicated his time and passion and physical health to his work — personally connected to his work at the deepest levels — Ed explains, “Today on my farm, I have 500 acres established as certified organic, and the reason was, my own health”.
All in all — this was a heartwarming episode that was truly a special treat for those who were there live, and for you listening to it now. Ed is a national treasure and we are grateful he joined us for this episode.
Seeing that we are at a huge milestone, Episode #30 and our first ever Podcast LIVE recorded successfully -- a huge THANK YOU is in order, to all of our amazing listeners around the world in the Regenerative Ag community who have supported this show and helped to make it such a success — and to our dedicated and passionate podcast team of John, Jenna, Nathan, Robin, Anna, and Geoff and the entire AEA team without your work in the field, in the Plant, in the warehouse, and connecting the economic dots in between — we wouldn’t have this show, the powerful vehicle for impact and change that it has become.
Onward, to 2019 and season 2 of the show!
We hope you have a lovely holiday and we will see you and hear from you in the New Year.
Thank You,
The Regenerative Agriculture Podcast Team
