Infinity cannot be understood from a finite perspective. The way to feel at peace with life cannot be found from the "depressed" perspective. Here's is how I cured depression and how it is no longer something I ever have to deal with for long periods of time. For so long I was trying to find happiness while focusing on everything that made me upset. I was trying to find peace while diving into the stresses of life. Once I changed the perspective (my point of view, and what I was seeing) my life has never been the same. Once you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. That is one of my favorite Wayne Dyer quotes and I never quite understood it fully until now. Here are some examples. Wayne Dyer mentioned, if you want to figure out how to get a boat to float above water, you do not sit around contemplating the sinking of things. We have massive boats made of materials like metal that definitely do not float. We figured out that once you displace enough water, metal can float extremely efficiently. We wouldn't have discovered this if it wasn't for the change in perspective. If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. - William Blake I thought of this very interesting idea this morning. Imagine the man who invented the first light bulb. He brought something into existence by thinking differently about his current reality. You may be in a place where you are surrounded by sorrow and sadness, you need to be willing to imagine something that doesn't yet exist. Like happiness or inner peace as an example. Think of what has created happiness for you in the past, or what creates it for others. What you appreciate about the world, try and use this focus. Think about music, food, traveling, imagine palm trees and a calming beach. While bringing these things into your imagination, you have now given yourself a perspective that is much more likely to figure out how to get there. Who is more likely to score better on a test, the person who is stressed, worried and doubtful. Or the person who is confident, excited and passionate. Obviously, the confident perspective is more likely to find answers. Do you seriously believe the light bulb was invented by a person getting to know a dark room? More than likely that is where his desire to invent it was created, which is a topic for another day. If you want to create fire you can't smash two ice cubes together, you need to think differently. Now that might seem obvious and it is absurd to think smashing two ice cubs together would solve your problem of being cold and create fire. But that is what we do without thoughts. We are doing the same thing, expecting to feel different. We need to be willing to shift our perspective and imagine what does not yet exist. Understand the nature of depression can only get you so far. Boats were not invented while contemplating the sinking of things. Airplanes were not invented while contemplating the "staying on the ground" of things. Happiness cannot be invented only by contemplating depression. Being extremely intelligent on the topics of depression, loneliness, and sadness does not make you the master of these emotions. As an example, a "light bulb" inventor us not an expert of darkness, but he becomes the master of darkness. All he had to do was create light, and the moment he did so, the darkness faded away. In most cases, depression (for me anyway) is nothing but a conditioned thought pattern that I was trapped in. For myself, it took weeks of journaling, meditation, and contemplation to take on a new perspective and become free from depression, sadness, loneliness, and anxiety once and for all. I hope this doesn't sound so overly simplistic, my intention to help you as I have been in these dark places, and I have found a simple way to at least take steps in a more peaceful and joyful direction.
