#Mindset: How I Bounced Back from Depression and Going Broke -- You Create the Narrative for Your Life
I can’t believe I gave a commencement speech to 5,000 people. I have a lot to be grateful for.. but this is by far my proudest moment because it represents a huge step for me living my dreams of inspiring and empowering young people everywhere.
••
But in this moment of power, where I stood before parents, educators, government officials, and students -- I wanted to do something different. I wanted to open up about the struggles I went through that propelled me to where I am today.
••
After they listed out all of my academic, career, and business accomplishments -- I had to open up about all the pain and depression that I struggled with. I had to remind people that no matter what it looks like on the outside, we all had to start somewhere. So trust your process.
••
Most people never talk about their failures, they only give you the highlight reel out of insecurity. But I am owning my failures because it is during my darkest moments that I learned to embrace my light.
••
I still have insecurities that I'm fighting through, as those closest to me can attest. But I will continue to build myself up so that I can use my insecurities as a source of strength. If you own your weaknesses, they cannot be used against you.
••
Stay strong.
