While we're a cycling podcast, this felt like an event we need to cover because it's an landmark of human achievement and a lot of our listeners are also interested in distance and endurance running It's also the kind of event that has a lot of lessons for professional and amateur sportspeople.
Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon in less than two hours at the Ineos 1:59 event. He holds the world record for this at 2:01:39 in last year’s Berlin Marathon. But the Ineos 1:59 isn’t an “official” record. This is effectively an experiment conducted by Nike and Ineos to see whether a marathon can be run under 2 hours in idealized conditions.
