How Long O'Lord? - A Prayer for The Weary Heart
This week is a short, deep, raw episode. Chelsey's sharing a prayer she wrote to The Lord while in this season of navigating life with a seemingly constant weary heart. Weary of missing people, weary of wanting God to end this, and weary of missing our normals. Her prayer is this short episode will meet your heart in a tender way and most importantly point you to Him.
Prayer:
How long O’Lord? I know these words are very familiar to you. They’ve been muttered, whispered, and screamed at you. Our hearts are aching for normalcy and connection. Our hearts yearn for the day this is over and past us.
Lord, I am not alone and I know that. You make it so evident you are with me. In this time where we are physically distant from others, I pray we all feel a deep sense of your presence.
God, my heart in some ways has turned to stone. Lord - remove it. I pray Ezekiel 36:26-27 over me and anyone listening. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
Lord, remind us you are outside of time. You don’t ask us to control the next second before us. You just ask us to trust you. To stand firm. To await the eternal glory you have called us to. 1 Peter 5:10.
Jesus wipe mud on my blind eyes so that I see you when I look at my circumstance. As my earthly heart shatters from its lack of control remind me that even in my sin-filled flesh you love me. You died for me so I can live for you.
Help me, love where you have me. Help me wake up every day grateful for another opportunity to grow closer to you and help me rest peacefully knowing you see me.
God, bind the enemy and shut his condescending mouth. Remind us that his head has been trampled. Help us to speak your truth out loud as he tries to defeat us in our thoughts.
You’re in charge. You’re on the throne. YOU’RE THE ONLY ANSWER.
I ask this all in Jesus’s mighty, powerful, redeeming name. Amen.
