A native of the Bronx, New York, Lee earned her MD from Yale University School of Medicine and was Chief Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is the former Director of Research for the Study of Violence (Harvard, U.Penn, NYU and Yale) and co-founded the Violence and Study Group at Yale University (MacMillan Center for International Studies). She earned her MDiv from Yale Divinity School (1995).
Bandy has been a consulted for violence prevention in prisons and community with the governments of Ireland, France, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.
