How Alicia Changed Her Business from Weight Loss to Intuitive Eating
Alicia shares how she shifted her business from the dieting/intentional weight loss to the anti-diet/intuitive eating paradigm after she made the shift herself (discussed in episode 2). She talks about leaving her job in NYC to come home to Wisconsin and begin business working as a “woman’s health” dietitian, which morphed its way into, essentially, “women’s weight loss.” She reflects on the persistent challenges that her and her clients experienced in that work (including negative feelings towards the self and food). Once Alicia realized that she didn’t want to “prove” outcomes using dieting tools (like the scale, weighing food, etc.)and that she couldn’t be an advocate of weight loss AND intuitive eating simultaneously, she put a stop to everything and fundamentally restructured her business at the sacrifice of losing clients, income, and the ego associated with the RD credential that told her she “should be able to provide weight loss services.” She explains why she doesn’t regret that decision and encourages listeners to reflect on making the shift from dieting to intuitive eating too.
