156: How to generate media interest using Twitter | Interview with Dr Emma Beckett
On this week's episode of the Reputation Revolution podcast, host Trevor Young chats with Dr Emma Beckett, a food and nutrition scientist with the University of Newcastle, who uses social media effectively to generate interest in, and discussion around, all things nutrition.
Emma's mission is to empower people to make their own decisions around food and nutrition, whether those be healthier decisions or happier decisions.
Interestingly, a key outcome of her social efforts, particularly on Twitter, is interest from mainstream media, resulting in editorial coverage, including interviews on radio and national television.
Emma says: "... sometimes it comes from ... I do a little rant on Twitter and a producer will send me a message saying instead of a Twitter rant, that could be a nice little piece on my show."
We discuss how Emma injects her personality into her micro-content, blending nutrition tips with food-inspired dresses and earrings to reinforce her message.
Emma's catch-cry? "Come for the fashion, stay for the science!"
