Moovin & Groovin: S1E3 - Yoga for Cyclists

Claire Deacon guides us through some of the best yoga poses for cyclists, explaining that cycling is one of the few activities in which muscles contract concentrically (so, while shortening), rather than eccentrically (while lengthening). The repetitive motion in peddling can cause the muscle fibres to shorten - this is also known as 'adaptive muscle shortening.' This will not only cause an imbalance in your muscles and put you at risk of injury, but it can really jeopardise your posture too. Shortened muscles can impact your ability, comfort, aerodynamics and eventually lead to injury. Most cycling injuries are caused by tight muscles or a limited range of motion. By targeted stretching you can lengthen your muscles, unlock your full potential and extend the years you can cycle. Claire talks us through some yoga poses that will help you as a cyclist.
