Indirect Calorimetry: Gaining an Edge using Nutrition in the ICU (Journal Club-ish)
Should we be using indirect calorimetry to give our critically ill patients an edge to survive their insult that landed them in the ICU? This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that we should! In critically ill patients, assessing their metabolic status and nutritional requirements can be a challenging task. In this episode, we explore how indirect calorimetry can be used to calculate the precise energy expenditure and substrate utilization of ICU patients.
