PHOTO 251: Documentary travel photography and the joy of philanthropy with guest Kerry Pryor
We talk to documentary travel photographer Kerry Pryor who runs a commercial freelance photography business in Melbourne, but also travels regularly for her work. This includes regular destinations like Ethiopia, Nepal, and Kenya on assignment for “Eyes for Africa” and “Beyond the Orphanage”. Kerry was recently awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to photography, and to international charitable initiatives. Kerry talks about the pros and cons of studying photography as a diploma course ands lessons learnt working as a stills photographer on movie and TV sets. She reveals highlights, logistics and challenges of working as a volunteer in emerging countries, gear when working in remote locations, what you should consider when volunteering and much more.
